Gdańsk is a beautiful port city in northern Poland. With its cobblestone old town, riverside scenery, and promenade stretching all the way to the sea, it's a city perfectly suited for exploring by bike. The three cities of Gdańsk, Sopot, and Gdynia — collectively known as the Tri-City — also boast some of the best-developed cycling infrastructure in all of Poland. In this article, I'll walk you through how to use MEVO, along with my personal experience riding it!

1. What is MEVO? Basic Info on Gdańsk's Bike-Share Service

mevo
Stations are scattered all over the city.

MEVO is an electric-assist bike-share service operating across the Tri-City area, including Gdańsk, Sopot, and Gdynia. You can register and start using it easily through the app, which makes it tourist-friendly too.

  • App name: MEVO (available on iOS and Android)

  • Main service areas: Gdańsk, Sopot, Gdynia

  • Pricing: A few zloty per 30 minutes; monthly plans also available

  • Electric assist: Yes (great for hills!) — non-assisted bikes are also available

2. How to Use MEVO (Beginner's Guide)

1. Download the app and register Search for "MEVO" on the App Store or Google Play and download it. Enter your name, phone number, email address, and credit card details to complete registration. Note: your app store region may need to be set to Poland.

2. Choose a plan For short stays, pay-as-you-go (prepaid) is recommended. For longer stays, there are also flat-rate plans.

3. Find a bike Use the map in the app to locate nearby MEVO stations and available bikes.

4. Unlock and ride Scan the QR code on the bike using the app. Once the lock releases, you're ready to go!

Unlock the lock securing the bike, then snap it into the rear storage rack — and you're all set.

5. Return the bike Return it to a designated station. Manually lock it up and the return is complete.

3. My Honest Experience Riding It

It's very comfortable.

That said, some bikes have rusty chains or broken saddle height adjusters, so I'd recommend giving the bike a quick check before unlocking it. There's no way around it — you have to rely on your own eyes.

Summary: MEVO is a Great Travel Companion!

MEVO made exploring Gdańsk much more free and enjoyable. It's easy even for first-timers, and being able to explore the city at your own pace is a real plus. I'd recommend it for both short-term visitors and long-term residents alike.

The Tri-City area, starting with Gdańsk, has excellent cycling infrastructure and flat terrain, making it a pleasure to ride along with the Baltic Sea breeze.
